This is a sakaki tree placed alongside the Shinto altar in my study. It was replaced on the last day of the year, and it has been alive for about 140 days now. I’ve never seen a sakaki tree live for such a long time, so it’s quite surprising. The branches that are immersed in water have small roots-like structures growing from them. It’s a daily experience filled with quiet amazement and awe for its vitality.
